NORRN March update
We're glad to announce that this year's annual conference will take place on June 16th! Plus, we share details on a new preprint and an upcoming workshop on electronic lab workbooks.
NORRN 2025 annual conference
We are excited to share that the NORRN annual conference will take place on June 16th, so mark this in your calendars! This year’s meeting theme is “Responsible open science”. For this conference, we’re very happy to be collaborating with the Centre for Medical Ethics at the University of Oslo. We’ll share more details regarding the conference in an upcoming newsletter.
New preprint evaluating transparent reporting of secondary data analysis
Members of the NORRN team have contributed to a new analysis of the transparent reporting of secondary data, which is described in a new preprint. Quantitative researchers often analyse existing datasets, but like primary datasets, there are various transparency practices that make this type of work more reliable and credible. This study evaluated how these practices are used in studies using data from the Norwegian Mother, Father and Child Cohort study (MoBa) from 2007 to 2023. It found that very few studies preregistered their analyses or shared additional materials and analysis scripts. However, over time, some of these practices became more common, reflecting a growing trend towards open and reproducible science.

This paper also provides an example of how researchers can adopt these practices effectively for secondary data, even when sharing raw data is challenging.
Open Science Lunch - March 17
The next Open Science Lunch organised by several university libraries in Norway is on Electronic Lab Notebooks and how they can improve research workflows in the lab.
Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELNs) are a digital alternative to the traditional paper-based lab notebook with enhanced functionalities. These include searchability, structuring and documenting experiments, co-authoring, access control, version control, addition of metadata, and the efficient use of protocols. At NTNU and UiT, RSpace has been selected as the common solution for ELNs, whereas eLabJournals is used at UiO.
The event will take place on Thursday March 27th at 12:00 on Zoom. For more details, see the event page.
