NORRN November update

Foundation Dam joins the NORRN stakeholder engagement group
We are excited to announce that Foundation Dam has officially joined the NORRN stakeholder group. As one of Norway’s largest foundations, Foundation Dam plays a pivotal role in advancing health and research initiatives that aim to enhance the health and wellbeing of people in Norway.
Research funders have a considerable influence on research practices through their funding choices and policies. Foundation Dam's commitment to supporting high quality health and research projects aligns seamlessly with NORRN’s mission of promoting rigorous, robust, and transparent research practices in Norway. Their partnership will undoubtedly strengthen NORRN’s efforts to improve reproducibility in Norwegian research.
Here’s Foundation Dam Secretary General Hans Christian Lillehagen on our new partnership:
Our main aim as one of Norway’s largest health research funders is to fund high quality research projects. This is easier said than done. Too much research lacks the rigor and transparency needed to be reproducible. No one can fix this problem alone. We need researchers, research institutions, funders and policy-makers to pull together. That is why we need initiatives like the Norwegian Reproducibility Network. The potential benefit can hardly be overstated. Better health research translates directly to saved lives and better life quality.
Online pre-registration course on Friday 22nd November (10.00 - 12.00)
Increasingly, researchers across various disciplines are preregistering their hypotheses, methods, and analysis plans before collecting or analyzing data. Preregistration motivates us to think more carefully about research designs, helps prevent the switching of study outcomes, and increases research transparency and visibility. But how and where do we preregister research studies?
In this course run by NORRN, we will introduce the concept of preregistration and explore both its benefits and challenges. Participants will receive a comprehensive, step-by-step guide on how to preregister research studies, along with an overview of different online platforms available for preregistration. Additionally, the course will demonstrate the process of preregistration using the Open Science Framework (OSF), a robust platform for research registration and sharing.
The end of the course will include a brief session with our new stakeholder partners, Foundation Dam, on their preregistration requirements for submitting funding applications.
This course is open to all but you must register here to join.
Time: Friday, November 22nd, 10.00 - 12.00 CET
Place: Online on Zoom (Zoom link will be sent to all participants before the course)
